Filing closes; six hopefuls line up for R-5 seats

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

Nevada R-5 School District voters will have six candidates to choose from when they vote on April 3 to fill the two open seats on the board.

Denise Hedges, Kim Niestrath and Monty Smith filed for the board Tuesday, joining incumbent board member Mike McCaffree, Tommy Transue and Tim Moore, who had filed previously.

Also on the April 3 ballot will be the R-5 School District's bond issue to finance the construction of a performing arts center, a multi-purpose building, repair the roof and replace the floor and some of the bleachers in Wynn Gymnasium and update the district's technology.

The city of Nevada also will be holding its annual city council election on that date with incumbent council members Jayne Novak and Seth Barrett the only candidates on the ballot.
