Dorothy Mae McConnaughey, 87, Richards, Mo., passed away on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, at Moore-Few Care Center, Nevada, following an illness of a few weeks. She was born July 2, 1924, in Richards, Mo., to James Samuel Blake and Rhoda Mae Norris Blake. She married Lee McConnaughey on March 5, 1941, in Clinton, Mo., and he preceded her in death on June 3, 1983.

Dorothy was born and reared in the Richards area and spent most all of her life there. She worked for many years in the Richards schools as a cook. She was a member of the Busy Bee Club in Richards. She was an avid gardener and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include one son, James McConnaughey, Nevada; five daughters, Dorothy Brooks, Hume, Mo., Dixie Stuart, Neosho, Mo., Nancy Mashek, Rhonda Pruitt and Linda Brooks, all of Richards; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, David and Phil; one grandson, John McConnaughey; and two brothers, Jack and Bill Blake.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 1, at East Liberty Cemetery, Stotesbury, Mo., with the Rev. Bryan Keith officiating. Friends may call now and until 1 p.m., Wednesday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and the family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 31, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Heartland Hospice in care of Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nevada.
