Council to review lease, design-build agreements tonight

The Nevada City Council has a long agenda facing them when they meet at 7 tonight in the council chambers in the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash St.

Among the items that will be under consideration is the retirement of a $90,000 loan from the Neighborhood Improvement District fund to the general fund to cover a budget shortfall in 2005 which was never repaid.

The council will also be considering a lease-purchase agreement with John Deere Credit for a utility tractor for the parks and recreation department, and a lease agreement with Young Iron and Metal for a 30-foot gooseneck trailer used for recycling purposes.

Other items include adding the new city treasurer as a signatory on all city accounts, approving and adopting a tax exempt financing compliance policy and procedure, a change order to the city's contract with CDL Electric for the Highway 71 and K Highway intersection lighting improvements and a ordinance to exclude key boxes from Chapter 12, fire protection, of the city code.

The council also will look at a design-build agreement with Erwin Construction for a concession stand - restroom facility at the Twin Lakes Sports Complex: a lease-purchase agreement with Heritage State Bank for a John Deere 310J backhoe loader for the public works department and a contract with Lamar Outdoor Advertising for billboard advertising.

There are five bids on the council agenda: a tractor and chemicals for the golf course, replacement and reinstallation of a motor at the city's water well number 4, a hydraulic system for the UV system at the wastewater treatment plant and a truck for the facility maintenance department.

More money spent on the money pit golf course.

What are they doing for the golf course? I missed it somewhere.

It says they are spending $23,000 on a new tractor for the golf course because the old one has a broken hitch. That would be like buying a new car because the knob fell off the radio on the old one.

Speaking only of the new restroom/concession stand at twin lakes -- personally, I see it as a great thing! Having spent quite a bit of time at those fields in the last fifteen years, I know the new fields are a needed addition, we have never had enough fields or good drainage on the older ones --including the practice field at crowder. The new parking lot at crowder gives the students a non-mud surface to park on, and I imagine putting a softball field there (the field consisted of a backstop, and grass) would be a real issue on school/game nights -- kind of defeats the purpose. Once again, I see that some citizens believe "people" are profiting when actions are taken that don't directly benefit them.

The infield was dirt not clay. I will agree it drained well. Thank you for finding a place to put this backstop up and giving the children back an additional place to practice and play.

You do realize the only cost is the labor by a city crew. They are putting the old backstop back up, putting out the old bases. They will peal the grass off and there it is a practice field. The old field was dirt not grass, not clay, just plain old vernon county dirt (just like this one will be).
