Hume girls pound NEVC, Knights win boys contest

BRONAUGH-- Hume's girls basketball team began play at the GVVC Conference tourney with a dominating 80-24 win over Northeast Vernon County on Monday.

The Hornets (17-2) led 26-5 in the first quarter en route to the lopsided victory. By the end of the third quarter, Hume was up 68-19. Makena Thompson scored 30 points and 16 rebounds for Hume. Emily Brooks added 18 points, 11 assists and four steals for the Hornets. Tori Sears also reached double figures with 14 points.

Camille Buttorff scored 13 for NEVC.

In the boys game, NEVC turned the tables with a 70-34 blowout win over the Hornets.

A 25-5 third quarter blew the game open for NEVC.

Jacob Bell scored 20, Grant Davis had 17, Cody DeOrnellis scored 15 and Tanner Stutzman chipped in 12 for the Knights.
