A 29-year-old Nevada man faces charges of second degree assault, first degree burglary and resisting arrest in connection with a Feb. 17 home invasion in the 500 block of North Washington Street, Nevada.

Police officers got the call at about noon on Monday, and found that a 62 year-old female resident had discovered a burglar in her home. According to a press release from the Nevada Police Department, the burglar attacked the victim by pushing her to the floor and attempting to strike her, but the victim screamed, alerting her male companion, who was elsewhere in the house. The 64-year-old man ran to the victim's aid and the burglar fled the residence.

Moments later, Nevada police officer Brian Hansen, the first officer on the scene, located the burglary suspect, Christopher S. Pike, at the intersection of Cedar and Hunter Streets. Police said Pike attempted to flee but was successfully apprehended.

Pike is currently being held in the Vernon County jail on a $100,000 bond.

The female victim suffered a knee injury which was treated at the Nevada Regional Medical Center. She was later released.
