Dorothy Lee Tyer

Dorothy Lee Tyer, 91, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012, at Moore-Few Care Center in Nevada. She was born in Nevada on April 24, 1920, to Roy E. Taylor and Bertha Maude Wilson Taylor. She married James Sterling Tyer on Oct. 7, 1944, and he preceeded her in death in 1971. Two sons were born of this union, Roger Sterling Tyer and Steven Taylor Tyer.

Dorothy was a lifelong resident of Nevada and graduated from Nevada High School in 1937. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women in Nevada, Eastern Star, Ellis Domestic Science Club and Vernon County Democratic Women.

Dorothy was appointed to serve as county clerk after Sterling's death and she was re-elected and served until her retirement in 1986.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Melinda Lee Tyer of Nevada; one sister, Margaret Scott, Nevada; one brother, Roy Taylor and his wife, Joy, Nevada; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, Sterling, she is preceeded in death by her two sons, Roger Sterling Tyer and Steven Taylor Tyer; two sisters, Helen Gast and Marjorie Gast; a niece, nephews, and great-great nephew.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 3, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with Lester Thornton officiating. A committal service will follow at Newton Burial Park in Nevada.
