James "Bob" Newby, 78, Nevada, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Medicalodge of Nevada, following a brief illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1933, in Kansas City, Mo., to Clarence Rogers Newby and Hazel May Miller Newby. Bob was married Aug. 3, 1953, in Kansas City, Mo., to Gladys R. Harden and she survives of the home.

Bob was raised in Kansas City, Mo., and attended school there. Bob worked in the elevator construction business in Kansas City for 30 years and was affiliated with the Otis Elevator Company in Kansas City for 20 years. He belonged to the Local No. 12 Construction Union in Kansas City. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Nevada. Bob has lived in Nevada for the past 25 years.

In addition to his wife, Gladys, survivors include three children, Barbara Kisner and her husband, Melvin, Warrensburg, Mo., Diane Kidd and her husband, John, Harrisonville, Mo., and Clarence Newby and his wife, Cathy, Nevada; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; one brother, Clarence "Pete" Newby, the state of Oklahoma; and one sister, Mary Rinar, Huntsville, Ala.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 5, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Bill Platt officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker, Mo.

Friends may call now and until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada, and the family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 4, between 7 and 9 p.m.
