BOLIVAR -- The Nevada High School boys golf team took third place at the Bolivar Invitational Golf Tournament at Silo Ridge Golf & Country Club on Monday.

The Tigers and Willard tied for second place, but Willard took second on a tie-breaker (fifth player's score).

"The course was in pristine condition," Nevada Coach Brian Leonard said. "We played the ball down today, but the fairways were in great shape and that really wasn't a factor. The greens are always in great shape and today they were running true, smooth, and quick."

Nevada senior Joseph Ferry finished with a 79. He was one over par on his first nine (37), but struggled on one hole on the back nine to card a 42.

"Joe hit the ball real well," Leonard said. "If not for that one bad hole he could have had a 40 (on the back nine). It cost him, but he finished strong."

Ferry's score was good for sixth place overall at the invite.

Freshman Andrew Quitno and sophomore Keegan Bell also performed well, Leonard said. Quitno finished with a respectable 83 and Bell had an 85, his best round of the year. Quitno was 12th overall and Bell was 13th.

Senior Elijah Solidum carded a 95 to round out the team score. He finished 35th overall.

The tie-breaker with Willard went to the fifth player's scorecard. Nevada's Taylor Handly had a 115 and Willard's player had a 97.

Leonard said he was pleased with finishing third in a strong field of teams.

"That's the best we've ever finished over there," Leonard said. "I was just hoping for top five. This is some of the best competition we see. And it's a tough course. It played very fast."

Nevada will head to the Marshfield Invitational on Thursday. Marshfield will be the site of the Class 3, District 5 golf tournament on Wednesday, April 25.

Also of note, Nevada will host Butler next Thursday, April 19.
