Edward Starr, 89, of Independence, Mo., passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Ed was born Dec. 19, 1922, in Bates County, Mo., to George and Goldie (Siefers) Starr.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Starr was employed for 34 years by the Missouri Pacific Railroad/Union Pacific railroads before retiring 27 years ago as foreman of the shops at Neff Railway Yard.

Ed is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Addie (White) Starr; son, Kenneth Starr and wife, Mickey; daughters, Cheryl Smith, and Peggy Keller and husband, Lon; sister, Peggy Kuhlman and husband, George; sister-in-law, Wilma Starr; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m., Monday, April 16, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Mo., 64055. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service starting, at 9 a.m. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
