Nevada hosts JV track invitational

NEVADA -- Nevada hosted a JV track invitational on Tuesday.

Also competing were Joplin, Carthage, Carl Junction, El Dorado Springs and El Dorado Springs Christian.

For Nevada's boys, Steffan Ogle won the pole vault by clearing 12 feet.

Ben Sommer won the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:03.

Nick Geeding took second in the 110-hurdles and Brandon Barker was second in the high jump.

For the girls team, Nikiya Feezell won the long jump (13-6.5), was third in the high jump and third in the 400.

Brooklyn Vincent won the shot put (32-4) and was second in the discus.

Brittany Vickers was third in the shot put.

Tiffany McGraw took second in the pole vault, and teammate Emma Denman was third.

Taryn Charles finished third in the long jump, and Ezra Solidum was third in the 200.

The 4x100 relay team of Monica Girkin, Solidum, Kailey Couch and Gabby Gire took third.

Upcoming events

The NHS varsity track team will compete at Fort Scott on Friday.

The event begins at 4 p.m. at Fort Scott High School's Frary Field.

Girls team scores -- Joplin 184, Carthage 144, Nevada 115, El Dorado Christian 28, El Dorado Springs 13, Carl Junction 2.

Boys team scores -- Joplin 197.75, Carthage 136, Carl Junction 87.25, Nevada 57, El Do Christian 6, El Dorado Springs 5.
