Arneson, Short fare well at Monett tennis invite

MONETT--The Nevada High School boys tennis team competed at the Monett Invite on Friday.

Two singles players placed at the event for NHS.

Both Andrew Arneson (number-one singles) and Colton Short (number-two singles) received byes in the first round of their flights.

Arneson then defeated Andrew Gilliam of Monett 8-2. Adam Miller of Webb City then defeated Arneson 8-3 in the semifinals. Neosho's Michael Kramer then topped Arneson 6-4 in the third place match, so Arneson finished fourth.

Short lost to Ethan Replogle of Webb City in the second round. Short then won three-straight matches, defeating Zachary Vaughan of Clever to earn fifth place.

The regular season will conclude on Thursday when Clayton Wheeler's Tigers host Clinton at 4:30 p.m.

Nevada will compete at the Class 1, District 12 tennis tournament at Warrensburg the second week of May.
