Edward Dayton Matthews, 77, the son of Clarence and Eula (Brown) Matthews was born Oct. 13, 1934, in Nevada, Mo., and passed from this life on Saturday, May 19, 2012, at Northwood Hills Care Center in Humansville, Mo.

After graduating from high school in Nevada, Eddie moved and lived for a time in Humansville, Mo., where he worked at a gas station. It was while living there that he married Rebecca Fitzpatrick and to their union one son was born. Later, Eddie married Carol Powell and they spent 35 years together before her death five years ago.

In the late 1950s, he relocated to Independence, Mo., and soon after began employment with Wilcox Electric, working there for several years before going to work for Rich-Con Steel. He retired from the steel mill in 1984 at the age of 50. He continued to live in Independence until moving to the Collins area a few years ago to be near his son and daughter-in-law.

Survivors include one son, Matt Matthews and his wife, Robin, of Collins, Mo.; one sister, Dorothy Hardie of Independence, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Joyce Porter of Rich Hill, Mo.; and other relatives and friends.

Services for Edward Dayton Matthews were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 24, at the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City, Mo. Interment was in the Lefler Cemetery in Harwood, Mo.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Lewis-Hoagland Funeral Home, Schell City.
