Youth celebrate school year's end with special event

Runners take off with their beach balls during one of several relay races held at the After School Luau which was sponsored by the Vernon County Youth Task Force, Nevada Parks and Recreation and the Nevada Vernon County Chamber of Commerce and held in the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center on Friday. More than a dozen kids showed up to learn about and use the Jaws of Life from Nevada Fire Department. Children got to pick up then crush an egg with the heavy device. The kids played volleyball, ran relays, played games and more. Kids and adults also had the opportunity to view dramatic, comedic and vocal performances by members of the Lighthouse Children's Theatre from El Dorado Springs, Mo.
