Sister Terence Fitzgerald

Sister Terence Fitzgerald, a Sister of Mercy, died Friday, May 25, 2012, at McAuley Convent. She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Kingman, Kan. Sister Terence entered the Sisters of Mercy community at Webster Groves, Mo., on Feb. 1, 1944, and made her first vows on Aug. 16, 1946.

Sister attended Hutchinson's Junior College and Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas and received her BSN in May of 1943. She worked as a nursing supervisor and in administration throughout her nursing career in Missouri and Kansas until 1981. At this time she went into Pastoral Ministry in Springfield and retired from Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott, Kan. She retired to Mercy Convent in Fort Scott and moved to Barling in January of 2004.

Sister is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Rosary will be said at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 29, at McAuley Convent Chapel in Barling. The funeral mass will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, at McAuley Convent Chapel with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.

Pallbearers will be employees of McAuley Convent.
