Bushwhacker Days festival kicks off Wednesday

In just a few more days, Nevada's downtown will be teeming with activity as the 48th annual Bushwhacker Days celebration swings into action.

This year's event begins Wednesday at 6 p.m., on the Square, where traditions like the Legends of our Flags presentationm, a flag ceremony, and the Bushwhacker Days Royalty Coronation will take place.

Wednesday's activities also will include and ice cream social and the ever-popular Vernon County People For Pets dog show, and the carnival swings into motion at 6:30 Wednesday.

Each night, the carnival will offer $20 armbands; and will open at 7 p.m. Thursday; and at 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday.

New this year is the Brian Wendling juggling and comedy act, slated for 2 p.m., Saturday, on the main stage; and at 9 a.m., Saturday, there'll be live pony rides, and an antique tractor show is back, along with the car show and motorcycle show that have become fixtures around the Square. on Saturday.

Plus, escape artist Mario Manzini will be back with two performances, at noon and 3 p.m., Saturday, on the main stage.

Re-enactors will fill the Square with excitement at various times Saturday, and all four evenings will feature musical entertainment, with gospel music Wednesday, Local Legends on Thursday, Random Stranger on Friday, and the Charlie Horse Band and the Marci Mitchell Band on Saturday.

Bushwhacker Days wouldn't be the same without a parade, and this year's is set for 6 p.m., Saturday.
