NEVADA -- Colton Selvey's masterful pitching performance and Lane Ketterman's inside-the-park home run propelled the Nevada Red Sox AAA American Legion baseball team to a sweep of Warrensburg Post 131 on Thursday night at Champion Diamonds Sports Complex.

Lane Ketterman connects for a RBI single on Thursday night against Warrensburg. The Red Sox won both games.

Nevada won game one 5-1 and then took the nightcap 6-5.

"These are nice wins for us," Red Sox Coach Matt Ketterman said, noting that Warrensburg is always solid. "We got solid pitching and were able to get some key hits."

Game one

Colton Selvey threw a one-hitter for the Red Sox Thursday.

Selvey, a recent graduate of Liberal, allowed virtually nothing on the mound. The right-hander gave up just one hit, while striking out nine and walking four. He went all seven innings for a complete-game win.

"My fastball and my curve were working for me most of the game," Selvey said. "And then my slider was working later in the game. And my catcher (Trey Barger) helped me out, too."

Selvey, who threw a couple of no-hitters during his high school career, went to the mound in the top of the seventh with a no-hitter intact. But Warrensburg's Harrison Hill broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single to right. After a couple of walks, Selvey retired the side with another strikeout to end the game.

"Once they got a hit, it was just like 'oh well,'" Selvey said with a laugh. "But it was one of those nights. I felt good and everything seemed to come easy to me tonight."

A Jefferson College-signee, Selvey had good velocity all game and kept Post 131's hitters off balance. He had five one-two-three innings, as well.

"He threw great," Coach Ketterman said. "He was locating his pitches well."

The Red Sox got going right away against Post 131 starter Dylan Riley in the bottom of the first. Ketterman singled, stole second and went to third on a groundout. He came home on an error. Later in the inning, Bubba Banes drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0.

Warrensburg's only run of the game came in the second. Two walks and then a wild pitch allowed Jon Seigfried to score.

Alex Payne's RBI single to right made it 3-1 in favor of the Red Sox in the bottom half.

The score help up until the fifth, when the hosts added a couple of insurance runs. Selvey singled and later came home on an RBI single from Joe Lean. Another run scored on an error, giving Nevada a 5-1 cushion.

Five runs were more than enough for Selvey, who added he was glad to bounce back after last week's outing at Pittsburg.

Nevada shortstop Caleb Kauffman had two hits for the Red Sox.

Game two

A five-run second inning, highlighted by Ketterman's inside-the-park home run, proved key in game two's 6-5 win.

In the second, Cole Sanderson and Barger hit back-to-back singles. Next, Austin O'Neal lined an RBI double into left-center, scoring two runs.

After Grant Davis walked, Bradey Denney's sac fly made it 3-0. That brought up Ketterman. The Red Sox center fielder lifted a fly ball to center, Warrensburg's outfielder dove for the ball, but missed it. As the ball scooted all the way near the fence, Ketterman just kept running, and eventually both he and Davis chugged home for a 5-0 lead.

"That was huge," Coach Ketterman said of his son's drive. "It could have been a single, but ended up a home run. Those runs were big."

Warrensburg got RBI basehits from Hill and Brandon Spainhour off Lean in the third to make it 5-2.

One inning later, Brett Marr drove in a run for Post 131, cutting Nevada's lead to 5-3. Next, Seigfried hit a two-run double to tie the game at five.

The Red Sox answered back in the bottom of the fourth. Denney singled and went to second on a wild pitch and took third on a passed ball. Ketterman hit an RBI double to right for a 6-5 Red Sox lead.

Denney took over on the mound for Lean in the fifth. A 5-4-3 double play in the sixth got the Red Sox out of trouble. In the seventh, Denney sent down the visitors in order to secure the win.

Coach Ketterman said both Lean and Denney threw well.

Lane Ketterman had three RBIs on two hits. Barger, an El Dorado Springs product, also had two hits.

The AAA Red Sox are now 6-4 on the season.

The Red Sox are at Harrisonville on Monday night. Also of note, Ketterman said the home date with Harrisonville, originally scheduled for June 14, has been moved up to June 13.
