AA Legion team falls to Clinton at district tourney

HOLDEN -- The Nevada Red Sox AA American Legion baseball team fell to number-one seed Clinton 17-7 in five innings on Wednesday at the district tourney.
"Clinton is a veteran AA team that is well-coached," Red Sox Coach Jerrod Alexander said. "We made some mistakes that cost us and Clinton made more plays than we did."
All nine Red Sox starters got a hit, with Kyler Cliffman going 3-for-3, a triple short of the cycle, with a single, double and a solo home run.
Taylor Manes pitched three innings, giving up nine hits and six earned runs.
"He really pitched a lot better than the stat line says," Alexander commented. "We fell victim to some bad bounces in the outfield that Clinton took advantage of."
Added Alexander: "At the end of the day, the more-experienced team made more plays than we did. Hats off to them. They are a solid club that is well-coached."
Nevada will be back at the district tourney tonight at 8 p.m. The fourth-seeded Red Sox will play either third-seeded Holden or fifth-seeded Harrisonville. The Red Sox beat Holden 14-12 in the first round.
