Drivers can expect lane closings on sections of Austin Boulevard, also known as U.S. 54 Highway, and Osage Street in Nevada beginning Monday, July 30, as a project to improve sidewalk ramps gets underway, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The sidewalk work will take place on Austin between Tower Street and Underpass Street and on Osage Street between Cherry Street and Hickory Street.
The work will begin on Austin. Drivers may expect lane closings Monday through Thursday, between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. After the project is complete on Austin Street, crews will move to Osage Street.
The project includes upgrading sidewalk curb ramps to meet federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
At the intersection of Osage and Walnut, contractor crews will repair the median curbing and make major repairs to the concrete islands.
The prime contractor on the project is Leath & Sons, Inc., of Raytown, doing the work for a low bid amount of $274,000.
The work is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 1. However, the contractor hopes to have the work completed by late August.
