Nevada softball defeats Lamar at home
NEVADA -- The Nevada Lady Tigers varsity softball team improved its record to 6-3 on the year when they defeatted the Lamar Lady Tigers Thursday at Bushwhacker Field.
Senior Christian Novak posted another stellar performance for the Lady Tigers as she allowed just two runs -- none earned -- on four hits with eight strikeouts over seven innings in a 6-2 Lady Tigers victory. Emmy Robertson took the loss for Lamar, allowing six runs -- all earned -- on 13 hits with seven strikeouts and two walks over her seven innings of work.
Things looked good for Nevada right from the start as the Lady Tigers got to Robertson early with two runs in the home half of the opening frame. Lamar didn't take long to respond, putting up its only two runs of the day in the top of the third, but that was the end as Nevada went on to score a single run in the bottom of the same inning and three more in the fourth to seal the victory.
Carsten Warner led the offensive effort for Nevada as she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored to improve her batting average to .407 on the year. Nevada's JV squad completed the sweep with an 8-0 victory.
Head coach Tammy Holcomb's squad is set to be back in action on Tuesday in Carl Junction. Play is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
