The Nevada Middle School Seventh and Eighth Grade Science Expo will take place starting Tuesday, Nov. 13, with the set up of projects from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., in the Nevada Middle School lobby and ending on Friday, Nov. 16, with an awards assembly at 2 p.m., in the gym.

Angie Landoll, NMS science teacher and Nevada R-5 science coordinator said students may choose to enter projects in either the "traditional" Science Fair or in this year's new event, the Science Exhibit. Science Fair projects include testing a hypothesis and are judged for prizes. Science Exhibit entries will display a demonstration or subject matter related to science and will not be judged. All Science Expo entries are worth extra credit to students participating.

Science Fair judging will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 14, and Thursday, Nov. 15, during the day, and parent viewing for all projects is Thursday, from 5 to 6 p.m. During the awards assembly on Friday, trophies, medals and ribbons will be awarded to category winners, best of show, and special awards entries in the Science Fair.

Science Fair categories include Botany, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Earth Science, Consumer Science, General Science, Medicine and Health, Physical Science, Technology and Inventions, and Zoology. Special awards include Most Creative, Most Environmentally Friendly, Most Healthy Tips, Best Use of Technology, Super Slick, and Science Safety. Four other awards are presented in honor of former Nevada Middle School science teachers Joe Olive, Levon Haller, Janet Guthrie and Larry Hurst, as well.

The Science Fair is sponsored by the Nevada Rotary Club, and category winners and the best of show will receive gift certificates.

The Nevada Middle School science teachers involved with the project include Landoll, eighth grade; Amanda Pollock, seventh and eighth grade; and Karen Gordon, seventh grade.
