George Allen Jenkins, 73, passed away at his home in Nevada, Mo., on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, following a lengthy illness. He was born on Nov. 6, 1939, in Deerfield, Mo., to Vernal Basil Jenkins and Dessie Fern Smith Jenkins. He married Lula (Lou) May Keller on May 29, 1993, in Joplin, Mo., and she survives of the home.

Mr. Jenkins grew up in the Bronaugh, Mo., area and graduated from Bronaugh High School in 1957. He was a truck driver for 25 years and worked as a welder for 26 years at nuclear power plants throughout the country before retiring in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965 and was stationed in Korea. He was a member of the VFW No. 2175 in Nevada.

In addition to his wife Lou, he is survived by one daughter, Tina McKee, Fulton, Mo.; two stepchildren, Tim Chandler, Oolaga, Okla., and Tammy Perry, Miami, Okla.; six grandchildren, Morganne McKee, Tyler Perry, Ryan Perry, Josh Chandler, Justin Chandler and Jaime Chandler; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee Jenkins, of Arizona; three sisters, Kay Barclay, Chanute, Kan., Frances Jenkins, Nevada, and Judy Bennett, Lamar, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 1:30 p.m., today, Nov. 27, at National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan., with the Rev. Mark Shaffer officiating. Friends may call from 8 a.m., Monday, until 12:30 p.m., today, and the family received friends from 7-8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 26, at Ferry Funeral Home.
