CARL JUNCTION, Mo. -- Play began in the Carl Junction Lady Bulldog Classic tournament Tuesday night at Carl Junction High School.

In the tournament's opening game, top-seeded Webb City took on sixth-seeded Monett and had little trouble opening the tournament with a win. The Lady Cardinals led, 21-2, at the end of the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 66-10 victory.

In the final game of the night, second-seeded Carthage squared off against fifth-seeded Liberal and though that game was closer, the Lady Tigers still held a 40-19 halftime advantage and never looked back, cruising their way to a blowout victory. The Lady Tigers ultimately took the opening-round win by a final score of 70-40.

Ten Lady Tigers got into the scoring column in the contest, led by Vanessa Pawlak with 17 points. Shaylee Stanley led the Lady Bulldogs with 12.

On the tournament's second day, Carl Junction -- the tournament's fourth seed -- will face Monett and the third-seeded Lady Tigers of Nevada will take on Liberal. Those games are scheduled for 6 and 7:30 p.m., tonight, at Carl Junction High School.

The three place games for the tournament are scheduled for Saturday afternoon.
