WALKER -- Hume's boys dropped a first-round GVVC tournament game Monday, falling to Ballard by a final score of 63-30.

The Hornets weren't able to match Ballard, dropping behind, 21-9, at the first break and trailing, 33-17, at halftime.

A 14-3 difference in the third quarter upped the margin to 47-20 and Hume wasn't able to get any closer, but the Hornets did hold the gap, for the most part, in the final frame.

Senior Zach Smith worked to keep the Hornets in contention, leading his team with 17 points, seven of those coming in the second quarter and eight more in the fourth.

He had help from Cain Crawford with six, Rhett Spencer with four, Jeremy Lewis with two and Zach Sales with one.

Three different players hit double figures for Ballard, led by Tristan Clark with 16, Ben Oswald with 13 and Patryk Sickels with 12.
