A single vehicle accident occurred early Wednesday morning Feb. 13, 2013 when Dillion Bennett, 30, of Nevada swerved to miss another vehicle while he was westbound on Atlantic St. According to the police report, Bennett's Dodge truck slid on the iced over roadway for about 200 feet, crossed Colorado St. to the south and struck the northeast corner of the home at 1219 Colorado belonging to Amber and James Overton. No one was in the residence at the time. The vehicle destroyed the gas meter. Due to the gas leak, the fire department, code enforcement and water dept personnel were called to the scene. A one block area was cordoned off and according to Captain Kevin Scott, the Nevada Fire Department was on the scene for an hour and 10 minutes while Empire Gas Co. workers dealt with the gas leak. Bennett received minor injuries and was transported to the Nevada Regional Medical Center by the Vernon County Ambulance District Photo by Rusty Mury/Daily Mail
