Letha Irene Hackney, 104, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Christian Health Care in Nevada, following an illness of several months. She was born Jan. 2, 1909, in Dederick, Mo., to Claude Roberts and Anna Adams Roberts. She married Wes Timbers on June 16, 1929, in Fort Scott, Kan., and he preceded her in death in 1940. She then married Joe Hackney on March 26, 1944, and he preceded her in death in 1986.

Irene was the oldest of nine children. She enjoyed making quilts and had given them to most of her family over the years. She was a homemaker and a caregiver. She would stay with people who needed someone to care for them so they could remain in their own homes. When she did something nice for someone else, it would lift up her own spirits and she wouldn't feel sorry for herself. She loved flowers and bird watching and also loved sewing. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Irene wanted her family to remember her for being kind and considerate of others and for her sense of humor.

Survivors include two sons, Donald Timbers and his wife, Shirley, Sedalia, Mo., and James Hackney and his wife, Melanie, Nevada; one daughter, Louise Stacy, Nevada; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 22 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; three sisters; both spouses; one son, Everett Timbers; two daughters, Mary Evelyn Timbers and Lucille Smith; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 8, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, Nevada. Interment will follow in Moore Cemetery, also in Nevada. Friends may call now and until 12:30 p.m., Friday, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, and the family receives friends from 7-8 p.m., Thursday, March 7, at the funeral home.
