Nevada Regional Medical Center is now offering DLCO (Diffusing Capacity of the Lung for Carbon Monoxide) testing to complement the center's pulmonary function testing services already offered.

Pulmonary function testing is an important diagnostic tool that allows healthcare providers to test the lung volumes and airways; simply measuring how the air is moving in and out of the lungs and at what speed. Based on the results of the testing, the physician can then develop an action plan for treatment.

"For many years we have only offered pre and post spirometry -- a simple diagnosis and treatment of the airways" noted Tim Wilson, Respiratory Services director. "We now offer a complimentary testing called Diffusing Capacity of the Lung for Carbon Monoxide, or DLCO. This test will enable us to diagnose gas exchange, or how well the lungs transfer carbon monoxide out into the bloodstream and how well they are contracting and expanding."

The service is offered through our Respiratory Therapy department and requires a referral and can be ordered by your primary physician. For more information, you can call the Respiratory Services Department at NRMC, 417-667-3355 extension 318.
