Evelyn Ella Austin, 81, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Fort Scott Manor, Fort Scott, Kan., following an illness of several months. She was born Nov. 19, 1931, in Springfield, Mo., to Dee Vern Goodpaster and Sylvia Vina Parker Goodpaster. She married Charles C. Austin on April 11, 1952, in Nevada, and he survives of the home.

Evelyn grew up in Harwood and graduated from Schell City High School in 1949. Evelyn worked in El Dorado Springs for a time after her marriage. She also worked in Nevada at the hat factory while her husband was in Korea. After his return, they moved to a farm until 1958, when they moved to South Dakota. In 1963, they returned to Nevada and both ran star mail routes while raising their family. On Nov. 1, 1971, Evelyn started working for the local Wal-Mart in Nevada, retiring in November 1993. She spent her retirement enjoying her family. She and Barry tended the farm and cattle until her husband retired. Evelyn enjoyed sewing and doing crafts. She was a member of the Church of The Nazarene, Nevada.

Survivors in addition to her husband, Charles, of the home, include two sons, Gary Austin, and Barry Austin and his wife, Penny, all of Nevada; three grandsons, Steven, Clinton, and Chuckie Austin; one granddaughter, Leesa Austin; four great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and her many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Ruth Heitz.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 16, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Mike Satterlee officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Walker, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service at the funeral home.
