Blake Hertzburg is running unopposed for a vacant position on the Nevada City Council.

Hertzburg, who is currently serving his second term on the Nevada Planning Commission is seeking the position formerly held by James McKenzie.

A question-and-answer profile of Hertzberg follows.

Why are you running?

I have served two terms on the planning commission. I've enjoyed my time on the planning commission and learning how the city works. I'm looking forward to serving on the city council to help make Nevada a better place to live.

What are the top three issues confronting the city?

1. Promoting our local retail sector, such as downtown. If we don't do this our sales tax monies will continue to decrease which will hurt the city and the retailers.

2. Working to establish terms limits for the various boards and commissions.

3. Decisions regarding a new public safety facility.

What will be your top priority once elected?

Keeping current on issues and getting the correct information to make informative decision regarding matters that face the city.
