Supporting the community for 130 years

Saturday, April 13, 2013

The Nevada Daily Mail has decades upon decades of service to the citizens of this city and county since 1883. For 130 years we have chronicled the lives and the events of Vernon County and its residents. That's our local commitment that has endured all this time and will continue into the future.

We have covered countless city, county and school meetings during these many decades, making a substantial monetary commitment to covering the good works done by our fellow citizen volunteers.

The Nevada Daily Mail has always been locally managed, like many of the current and existing businesses and industries that are located in Vernon County and operate here today.

Yet there is a common bond that each of these businesses and industries share -- a bond that is shared and renewed daily -- a desire to be here and a desire to make our community, our county and our state the best it can be, through covering the lives and times of our citizens, of being a daily chronicle of the events and happenings here.

It is our belief that we have a responsibility, in an American democracy, to not only educate and inform, but also to celebrate the many good works that happen as we recognize the outstanding citizens that make up Vernon County.

Our ownership over the years has included fine, upstanding people who were and are sincerely committed to serving this county and this state and have proven this for many years.

Again, they, we and I all share a singular commitment of wanting to be here.

Our financial footprint is extensive. As one of the larger employers in the city and county, our 31 employees spend their money here and our newspaper invests back into the community through how we spend our money, and through our donations and contributions to community and civic organizations, as well as supporting local businesses. We have donated substantial sums of money during these many decades of service to community causes, fundraisers, schools and organizations.

Those causes and organizations have included the Chamber of Commerce, United Way, the Community Council on the Performing Arts, the Nevada Young Authors Conference, the Nevada Tiger boosters and band boosters, Hume, Bronaugh, Sheldon and Northeast Vernon County schools, the Tumbling Tigers, sponsorships for Nevada High School football, Nevada Regional Medical Center, civic clubs, the annual Gala, the Vernon County Youth Fair, the Griffons, the Youth Symphony, and On My Own, as well as various other community causes and benefits, to name just a few, over the many years of our existence.

We are committed to continuing these many decades of service now and into the future and we relish the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for us in the next 130 years.
