A Vernon County man was arrested Wednesday morning after being involved in a domestic assault and hiding in the woods from authorities for several hours.

Vernon County Sheriff Jason Mosher said Todd Pollard, age and address unavailable, was arrested on unrelated outstanding warrants. He also faces additional charges of domestic assault, resisting arrest, and armed criminal action. He was being held in the Vernon County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling $136,816.

Mosher said in a news release that deputies were called Tuesday to a report of a domestic assault involving weapons. The news release does not list the address where the alleged assault took place.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they found a white male, whose name has not yet been released, suffering from "severe injuries to his face and head."

The injured man allegedly identified Pollard as the attacker and said he was armed with a handgun.

The sheriff said deputies confronted Pollard at gunpoint behind the house, but he fled into the woods on an all-terrain vehicle. Mosher and additional deputies joined deputies already on the scene and searched the woods for several hours without locating Pollard.

At one point, the ATV was located and deputies reported hearing a "shot" near the area where the vehicle was found, but were still not able to locate Pollard because it was dark by that time.
