Charles William Maynard

Charles William Maynard, 81, of Nevada, Mo., went peacefully to be with his Lord on April 24, 2013, in Weatherford, Texas. Mr. Maynard was born on Nov. 18, 1931, in Mcveigh, W.Va., to Millard McKinley Maynard and Arvella (Scott) Maynard.

Charles grew up near Pikeville, Ky. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was awarded two Purple Hearts. After the war, he earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and worked in that profession at most of the major aircraft companies in the United States. After retiring from mechanical engineering, he raised cattle on a farm near Montevallo, Mo., where he was recognized for his successes using intensive grazing techniques.

Charles is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joyce (Meister) Maynard; two daughters, Cynthia Graham and Jennifer Tilton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Alice Maynard and Esther Hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Henry Maynard; his sisters, Lonnie Malin and Elsie Pinson; and his daughter, Zella Renee Maynard.

Funeral services will be held at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, with the Rev. Jeff Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery, Milo, Mo. Friends may call from Monday until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 30, at the funeral home.
