Josephine Marie Rives

Josephine Marie Rives, 81, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013, at her home in Moundville, Mo., following a brief illness. She was born Dec. 17, 1931, in Offerle, Kan., to Nicholas Snider and Barbara Stegman Snider. She was united in marriage to James C. Rives June 12, 1950, in Kinsley, Kan., and he survives of the home.

Josephine was raised in Kansas and lived in various locales including California from 1961 to 1968, Mulberry, Kan., and Lamar, Mo., for a number of years although for the last 29 years she made her home in Moundville, Mo. She worked for Chastain's Nursing Home in Lamar, the Larned Kansas State Hospital, and the Nevada State Hospital until her retirement in 1989. Josephine also helped her husband Jim with Rives Landscaping for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, James, of the home; one daughter, Barbara E. Watkins and her husband, Stan, Moundville; two sons, James Charles Rives Jr., Lamar, and Robert Alan Rives Sr., Burdett, Kan.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Susan Jamison and her husband, Flem, Salina, Kan.; one brother, Richard Snider and his wife, Jessie, Salina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; numerous brothers and sisters; two granddaughters, Wendy Carter and Tammy Fry; one great-great-granddaughter, Reagan Merriman; one daughter, Elizabeth M. Carter; and one son, Clark D. Rives.

Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m., Monday, June 17, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Dennis Painter officiating. Interment will follow in Iantha Cemetery in Barton County, Mo. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 5-6 p.m., Sunday, June 16, at the funeral home.
