Board sets tax hearing

Friday, July 19, 2013

The Nevada R-5 School Board will be holding its annual tax rate hearing Aug. 21 at 7:30 a.m. in the Central Office, 801 W. Hickory.

"I'm looking at another slight decrease," Dr. David Stephens, Nevada R-5 superintendent, told the Nevada Board of Education during its monthly meeting Wednesday.

He said the money the district will be receiving from the railroad and utility tax has increased again, which will lower the maximum property tax rate the district can levy.

The district's current tax levy is $3.5889 per $100 assessed valuation and the new rate will be 3.5307 per $100 asses-sed valuation.
