Ruby M. Walker

Ruby M. Walker, 95, Ingleside, Texas, formerly of Nevada, passed away July 19, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was born June 27, 1918, in Oregon, Mo., to Don B. and Kathryn A. Martin. Ruby married C. Hayden Walker on Nov. 3, 1940, in Lamar, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1990.

Ruby was raised in St. Joseph, Mo., and graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in 1938. At that time she moved to Nevada and went to work at the Nevada State Hospital. She retired from there in 1976 as Director of Nurses. Ruby and Hayden retired as winter Texans, fishing in the gulf. She moved to Texas permanently after his death.

Ruby was a member of the First Christian Church of Aransas Pass, Texas. She was a member of the Nevada OES Chapter No. 53 for more than 50 years, and a lifetime member and past President of Missouri State Nurses Association.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Jerry Ann Moore and Ron; three grandchildren, Doug Brewer and his wife, Kim, Judi Eastland, and Christopher Moore and his wife, Atara; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Wanda Yoast of Lytle, Texas.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. David Rorabaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Milo Cemetery, Milo. Later, between 1-5 p.m., friends and family will gather at the shelter at Marmaduke Park.
