More thefts from parked cars

Thursday, August 8, 2013

The Nevada Police Department says it has received several victims' reports of vandalism and thefts from parked automobiles that occurred during the overnight hours between Tuesday and Wednesday. Several recent cases reported to police involved the thefts of wallets and women's purses left in automobiles overnight.

Nevada Police Chief Graham Burnley said he would like to remind residents of the city that thefts from automobiles are the number one act of theft reported to local police. Citizens are encouraged to lock their cars and remove valuables from seats and floorboards.

Property owners are encouraged to lock their buildings and cars when not in use. Most of these reported crimes occur during the night time hours when criminals are known to troll through neighborhoods checking for unlocked car doors and valuables. It only takes a thief a few seconds to steal the items they find in an unlocked car and disappear into the shadows.

Investigators need the public's help to gather suspect information with this most recent series of thefts. To report criminal activities call 911 or use the Tip Hotline 417-448- 5117. Any and all information will be kept confidential.
