Seventh-grade football ready for new season

Numbers are a plus as Nevada Middle School looks to open its seventh-grade football season.

Coaches Ken Eastwood (offense) and Mason Heard (defense) welcomed 41 players out for the team.

"We are both very excited for this season," said Eastwood and Heard. "We have a strong group of kids out who are working hard every day at practice.

"Our goal as coaches is to introduce the Nevada Tiger football philosophy to our players, and to get them as much playing time as possible, so that they will be prepared for the next level of their football careers."

This year's roster includes Jayden Ast, Kayden Ast, Jaren Powrie, Rylan Cartwright, Ethan Couch, Trenton Cullison, Peyton Denney, Treyton Fleeman, Tanner Gotschall, Spencer Hawkins, Mason Heiserman, Caleb Hughes, Will Johnson, Corey Klotz, Noah Lanear, Caleb Longobardi, B. McConnaughey, Tristen Mitchem, Holden Petitt, Grant Phebus, Diamond Pickering, Conner Poe, Trent Pryor, Brett Scott, Coletan Shepard, Tyler Spiva, Kaden Starlin, Matt Thompson, Dakota Warren, Dillon Warren, Kody Yohe, Carter Swearingen, Gaige Dedrick, Justin Guy, Gabe Barnes, Darian Rucker, Derek Cartwright, Vasant Goswami, Will Good, Joe Hendrix, and Chase Taylor.

"We hope that everyone will please come out and support the team," said the coaches. "Our players have been working very hard."

The team's first game is at 5: 30 p.m., Sept. 10, at home, against Joplin South.
