Forrest Randall Dilly, 89, Nevada, formerly of Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, at Barone Alzheimer's Care Center in Nevada. He was born on Nov. 11, 1923, in Madison, S.D., to Charles Albert Dilly and Della G. Randall Dilly. He married Kathryn Jean Meyer on Oct. 13, 1945, in Minnesota and she preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 2013.

Forrest was raised in Madison, S.D., and graduated from Eastern High School in Madison in 1942. He served in the United States Army in Korea prior to the Korean Conflict. Following the service, he returned to farming in South Dakota for a number of years. In 1964, Forrest and his family came to Deerfield where he farmed briefly before becoming a carpenter for 20 years, until his retirement. He had lived near Sheldon for the past 35 years. Forrest was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Lions Club in Sheldon. He was an avid supporter of the Vernon County Youth Fair and enjoyed the annual pheasant hunts in South Dakota with his family.

Survivors include two sons, Jim Dilly and his wife, Vicki, Nevada, and Dan Dilly and his wife, Brenda, Deerfield; two daughters, Joyce Hinrichs and her husband, John, Asbury, Mo., and Sally Jones and her friend, Lalan Cole, Nevada; daughter-in-law, Barbara Dilly, Deerfield; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Dilly, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one sister, Mae Della Dilly, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Kathryn; four sisters; three brothers; and one son, Ted Dilly.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 28, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Mark Mitchell officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. Friends may call now and until the hour of service and the family receives friends from 9:30-10:30 a.m., Saturday, prior to the service at the funeral home.
