Vanessa Josephine (Conway) Crooks

Vanessa Josephine Crooks, 59, of Nevada, Mo., passed away Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, in Nevada, after a lengthy illness. She was born March 9, 1954, in Washington, Mo., to Everett Clark and Josephine (Helm) Conway.

On May 3, 1982, she was united in marriage to Ricky Lynn Crooks in Miami, Okla., and he survives of the home.

Vanessa was a 1972 graduate of Nevada High School and a member of the First Baptist Church in Nevada. She worked for Farm and Home Savings for 20 years, 3M for four years, and J.T. Maloney's for eight years. Vanessa enjoyed crocheting and especially enjoyed trips to the casino. She was absolutely dedicated to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. One of her greatest loves was her dog, Sassy.

Survivors include her husband, Ricky, of the home; her children, Danielle Wyland of Nevada, and Justin Crooks of Independence, Mo., along with his friend, Emily White; stepson, Darrick Crooks and wife, Brooke, of Columbia, Mo.; her siblings, Joann Hoffman and husband, Eugene, of Pacific, Mo., Gene Conway also of Pacific, Robert Conway and wife, Beverly, of Olathe, Kan., Richard Conway of St. Louis, Mo., Linda Houk of Bronaugh, Mo., Everett Conway and wife, Audrey, of Davis, Calif., John Conway and wife, Pam, of Columbia, Mo., and Mike Conway and wife, DeDe, of Nevada; grandchildren, Kevin and Miles Wyland; stepgranddaughter, Baylor; her father and mother-in-law, Dodson (Sonny) and LaVerne Crooks of Nevada; brothers-in-law, Danny Crooks and wife, Peggy, of Liberty, Mo., and Carey Crooks and wife, Meshele, of Nevada; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Harry Angel; one sister, Mary Krutsinger; two brothers, Jack and Ed Conway; and her mother-in-law, Helen Crooks.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, at Ferry Funeral Home with Roger Beach officiating. Burial to follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m., today, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Bronaugh High School Scholarship fund in care of Ferry Funeral Home.
