Layton Eugene Ware

Layton Eugene Ware, 69, entered eternal rest on Aug. 26, 2013. He was born on May 26, 1944, to Effie Irene Hankins and Edward James Ware in Stotesbury, Mo. Lew, as he was affectionately known, was a resident of Deming, N.M., at the time of his death. He was formerly from Sheldon, Mo. He married Ursula Altwasser in 1967 and she preceded him in death. He later married Janice Frye on Nov. 29, 2006, and she survives of the home.

Lew joined the United States Navy at age 17 and served 22 years, retiring as Chief. Following his marriage to Janice, they traveled the states both by car and on their Honda Goldwing Tryke. They eventually settled in Deming near friends. They lived a wonderful life until this wonderful man became ill with Parkinsons and dementia. Janice was by his side during his illness.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; his sister, Wilma Williams; Janice's children, Daniel Heim, Katherine Heim, and Yvonne Graham; his sisters-in-law, Anita Ware, and Linda Hartline and her husband, Jack; and many nieces and nephews along with a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Edward, William, and Steven; and one sister, Mary Price.

Cremation has taken place. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 19, at Sheldon Cemetery with the Rev. Matthew Benjamin officiating, followed by a celebration of life at the Nevada Eagles Club at 1 p.m.
