According to Nevada Fire Chief William Thornton, the Missouri State Fire Marshall's Office and the Nevada Fire Department have determined the cause of the fire Thursday morning at Hardee's, 200 W. Austin Boulevard, was of "an accidental nature."

Thornton said the Nevada Fire Department responded to a report of flames coming from the roof of Hardee's Restaurant at 12:37 a.m. When the Fire Department arrived they found heavy smoke coming from the building. The firefighters tried to attack the fire from the interior of the building, however, the fire was concealed in the attic and void spaces of the building. At that point the department's aerial ladder was used to put out the fire.

A total of 25 firefighters from five departments responded to the fire, as well as Nevada Police officers and the Red Cross.
