Ethel Irene McCormick, Nevada, Mo., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013, at Nevada Regional Medical Center, the daughter of Raymond B. and Nancy Mabel (Melton) Estep.

Ethel graduated from Spokane High School in 1943, and then attended college, receiving a teaching certificate. She married George Oren McCormick April 14, 1946, in Flint, Mich., and to their union one son was born. The two had met earlier in Taney County before she moved to Michigan and were reacquainted after his return from the Army.

They lived for two years in Michigan before returning back to the Forsyth, Mo., area. They joined the family business working at the John Deere Dealership in Forsyth. In 1950, the family moved to Milo after George decided he wanted to become a farmer. They made Vernon County their home the rest of their lives. Through her working years Ethel was employed with Key Industries, Nelly Don, and then the Nevada State Hospital, retiring from there in 1988. Her hobbies included fishing, travel, and a love of dance. She was a longtime member of the Milo Baptist Church.

Survivors include her granddaughter, Heather Mitchem and her husband, Tony, Nevada; one brother, Lee Estep, La Hoya, Calif.; one daughter-in-law, Linda McCormick, Nevada; two great-grandsons, Dakota and Gunner Mitchem; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her son, George Brent McCormick, on Dec. 20, 1980.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada, with the Rev. Dr. James Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Newton Burial Park, Nevada. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 3, at the funeral home.
