Genevieve Margie Tippie Swarnes

Genevieve Margie Tippie Swarnes, 86, of Nevada, Mo., passed away on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013, at Moore-Few Care Center, in Nevada. Margie was born on Nov. 9, 1927, just west of Prescott, Kan., the only daughter of Anson Roy Tippie and Mary Ethel Marsh Tippie. She married Alfred Neal Swarnes on Feb. 16, 1947, in Rich Hill, Mo. They have six children; 24 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Margie spent most of her life in the Papinville and Rich Hill area, until she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Dallas, Texas. When she returned from her mission she spent the remainder of her life in Nevada.

Margie attended college in Warrensburg, Mo., and taught school in Prairie City, Mo. She dedicated her life to being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in which she was very active. She took pleasure in serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and researching her family history.

Margie is survived by two brothers, Billy Ray Tippie, of Rich Hill, Mo., and Gerald Eugene Tippie, of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; six children, Donna Lee Short and husband, John, of Rich Hill, Mo., Genevieve Carol Breneman and her husband, Keith, of Apex, N.C., Neal Roy Swarnes and wife, Mary, of Nevada, Mo., Diana Sue Knopp and husband, Jim, of Fort Scott, Kan., Melissa Pauline Claypool and husband, Tim, of Walker, Mo., and Christopher Eugene Swarnes and wife, Alta, of Spanish Fork, Utah; 23 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Harvey LaVaughn Tippie and Sherwood Keith Tippie; one grandson, Alfren Dryden Baze; two great-grandsons, Emitt Lawrence Riddle and Matthew Gadis Breneman; and one great-granddaughter, Mary Carol Breneman.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Nevada, with burial in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Rich Hill. The family suggests any memorial donations be made to The Papinville Historical Society in care of Heuser Funeral Home, Rich Hill.
