Tuesday, December 24, 2013

Bronaugh had little trouble with Northeast Vernon County Thursday, with the Wildcats rolling to a 66-28 victory over their county rival.

The game was close early, as Bronaugh led just 11-9 after eight minutes.

But in the second quarter, the hosts broke free, going on a 21-point scoring spree, while holding the Knights to just seven points.

That produced a 32-16 halftime difference.

Bronaugh didn't cool off either, firing in 23 points in the third quarter, expanding the lead as NEVC collected eight.

That gave the Wildcats a 55-24 edge heading into the last quarter, with Bronaugh adding on 11 more points, while holding the visitors to four.

Thomas Kerbs enjoyed a 23-point performance to fuel the home team. Chance Wait contributed 13. Rounding out the scoring were Gabe McIntire with nine, Jacob Hendrix and Bryce Whitworth with six, Anthony Hartman and Cole Diggins with four, Justin Hudson with two and Joe Mader with one.

Wait dropped in three three-pointers and Kerbs two.

Ty Davis netted 12 for NEVC, with Drue Hoagland adding five, Jared Hilvert with four, Trenton Rader with three, and Mitchell Longstreth and Jacob Hazel with two.

The Knights, who don't have a senior on the roster, return to action Jan. 7 at Montrose.

Bronaugh was due to host Hume Friday night.
