Freddy Clyde Haynes

Freddy Clyde Haynes, 86, of Walker, Mo., passed away on Dec. 24, 2013, at the Christian

Health Care, in Nevada, Mo. He was born on Dec. 6, 1927, in Walker, Mo., to Clyde and Nellie Merle Haynes.

Fred worked on a family farm and the MKT railroad. Farming was a love of his. He ran cattle and had some row crops for many years. He went into the U.S. Army in 1950, and served combat in Korea. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat. He was discharged in 1952, and worked for General Motors in Kansas City, Mo., from 1952-58.

He married Annie Alexander in 1953. They returned to Walker and bought a house from McKinley Wooden where they built a new house in 1977. To this union they had one son, Eddie, born in 1961. Fred and Annie were married for 54 loving years. They spent every second they could with each other and family.

After Annie had passed away, Fred started going on trips with friends and serving the community even more. He delivered Meals on Wheels in Nevada and the surrounding area for seniors by Care connections. He enjoyed helping the seniors he delivered the meals to, as much as they enjoyed seeing him. Fred always loved helping others that needed the help. He always had a smile on his face, as well as enjoyed putting smiles on others.

Fred had many close friends and they all loved having coffee in the mornings. The guys would first meet at Buzz's for a few cups and talk about things. When the guys were ready, they would head off to Fred's house and get the quarters out and start the friendly battles of pool.

Fred was also a member of the Walker First Baptist Church for many years, and then started going to El Dorado First Baptist Church after Walker had shut down. Serving the lord was a very important part of his life. Every Saturday morning he would go to 54 café, in Nevada, to meet with the Gideon's for their weekly meeting. Fred would also take the time on weekends and even during the week to travel to the jails to talk to inmates about the love of the lord and hand out the small Bibles. He always had a little Bible at hand for the unexpected times that he needed one.

He was also involved in many organizations such as The Gideons, Masons, Lions Club, Eastern Star, and the United States Army.

Fred found family very important. He loved spending time with his son and grandchildren, and his great-grandchildren and his two brothers, Kenneth and Frank Haynes. He was a great role model for everyone to go by. Treat one as you would want to be treated and that every day is a gift and not to take it for granted. He taught us to work hard and be thankful. He would always tell you when he was in a conversation to think ahead and plan, where you want to go in life instead of day by day.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Lue Haynes; parents, Clyde David and Nellie Merle Haynes; and an aunt, Flossie Wolfe.

Fred is survived by his son, Eddie Haynes and wife, Sandra, of Pleasanton Kan.; brothers, Frank Haynes, of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Kenneth Haynes, of Belton, Mo.; grandchildren, Virginia Haynes, Renea Marshall, and Joshua Haynes, all of Pleasanton, Kan.; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Telleah, Ashton, and Keelan Gratton, of Pleasanton, Kan., Joslyn, Makayla, and Blake Haynes, also from Pleasanton, Kan.; sister in-law, Neoma Foreman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services with military honors by VFW Post No. 3691 will be at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 27, at Sheldon Funeral Home, El Dorado Springs, Mo., with the Rev. Ron Marsh officiating. Interment will be in Newton Burial Park, Nevada.
