Charles Edward "Ed" Leavell

Charles Edward "Ed" Leavell, 70, Sheldon, Mo., passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan., following a lengthy illness. He was born June 10, 1943, in Sheldon, Mo., to Sterling Edward "Pat" Leavell and Dorothy C. (Lathrop) Leavell.

Ed was raised in the Sheldon area and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-67, serving in Vietnam. Ed worked for Texaco Pipeline for many years. He retired from Thorco, in Lamar, in 2007. Ed was a member of the Sheldon Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Leavell and his wife, Melissa, Sheldon, and Jason "Blu" Leavell, Sheldon; five grandchildren, Kelsey, Eric, Devion, Kylie, and Jason Leavell; three brothers, Wayne Leavell and his wife, Jeanie, Lamar, David Leavell and Gary Leavell, both of Sheldon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Marshall.

A committal service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20, at Sheldon Cemetery with Jerod Lamb officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada.
