Seven candidates have been nominated for spots on the Vernon County University of Missouri Extension Council. Nominations were accepted through Dec. 11, 2013.

The board is split into northern and southern districts with eight open positions. Only three individuals were nominated for the northern district and include Kathy Kedigh, of Nevada, Charie Clark, of Richards, and Shauna Hom, of Walker.

Nominees for the southern district are Cathy Blacklock, of El Dorado Springs, Tom Harold, of Nevada, Dusty Stong, of Sheldon and Melissa Stong, of Sheldon.

Council members serve two-year terms, and the election will be held in February. Elected council members are not allowed to serve more than two consecutive terms, and must live in the extension district. Voting is open to all residents of Vernon County who are 18 years or older.

Pat Miller, County Program Director for the extension, said those interested in becoming involved with the board should contact the Extension Office for additional information.
