Swirling lights, swishing dresses and simple, good fun characterized the second annual Father Daughter Dance, held at the Franklin P. Norman City/County Community Center, on Saturday evening.

More than 650 people attended the dance, up from last year's 460 attendees.

"I think the majority of the girls had a good time," Nevada Parks and Recreation Director Dana Redburn said. "I think we'll continue the Dressin' for Dads, as well as the dance."

Redburn said seeing the girls wear dresses they had helped provide felt heartwarming.

"We also talked to some of the girls who won certificates to have their hair done and eat at restaurants," she said. "They told us they felt like princesses. The confidence the girls felt really came through."

She said the dance, overall, had been a success, but the coat check was a disaster.

"At our meeting, we're going to go over some areas where we can improve," she said. "Next year, we'll move it into the game room and have tickets."

Redburn said next year's dance will be the second Saturday in February.

"Hopefully, we'll get to the point where we'll need a new venue because we outgrow the community center," she added.
