MONTROSE, Mo. -- Sheldon High School's boys' basketball team nipped Montrose, 60-56, Monday night, on the road and in the process, won their 19th game of the season, against four losses. And not only that, but Monday's win further cemented the Panthers as the top team in the Golden Valley Vernon County Conference, as Monday's game was a rematch of the conference tournament championship game, when the Panthers won by a final score of 62-50, at Hume High School, Saturday.

Sheldon had taken a 13-5 lead after 8 minutes, but the hosts caught fire in the second period and exploded for 21 points. Sheldon came up with 14, resulting in a 27-26 halftime edge for the Panthers.

The two teams traded points for most of the third quarter and the hosts managed to shave the point off the difference for a 40-40 deadlock with one frame remaining.

The Panthers then put together their best period of the contest, dropping in 20 points, while Montrose finished with 16 in the fourth quarter.

Micah Swanson paced Sheldon with 20 points, but he had plenty of help as Reed Worsley contributed 14, Corey Baney 13, and Zack Enochs 11. Cody Hicks and Tristan Hart each contributed one.

Logan Swaters paced Montrose with 22, connecting on five 3-pointers. Jacob Engeman added 19, but no other player scored in double figures for the home team.
