Filing for county offices opens next week

Anyone interested in holding a Vernon County public office should prepare for candidate filing, which begins next week.

Filing opens at 8 a.m. on Feb. 25 and runs through 5 p.m. on March 25 at the Vernon County Clerk's office.

Offices up for election include associate circuit judge, Vernon County presiding commissioner, ,county clerk, circuit court clerk, recorder of deeds, prosecuting attorney, surveyor, township or ward committeeperson.

Ballot placement will be determined by random draw on the first day. Candidates interested in random ballot placement should file with Vernon County Clerk Tammi Beach before 5 p.m. on Feb. 25. After the first day, ballot order will be determined by filing order.

Filing candidates must bring along proof of identity and submit a $50 filing fee receipt or check written to the central committee of their affiliated party. Filing fees are not required for the township committeeman or committeewoman positions. Additional filing questions can be directed to Beach at 417-448-2500.
