Water main relocation on council agenda

Tuesday, March 4, 2014

The Nevada City Council will be looking at a lengthy agenda when it meets tonight at 7 in the council chambers of the Public Safety Building, 120 S. Ash St.

Among the items under consideration will be the first and second readings of a special ordinance to be considered as an emergency ordinance to move a 16-inch water main that crosses the Cottey College campus and will interfere with an upcoming construction project. Handling this ordinance as an emergency allows the council to hold both the first and second readings during the same meeting. Otherwise the two readings of the ordinance would have to be separated by at least seven days.

The council will also consider a related ordinance to approve check signers for the Cottey Relocation fund account at US Bank.

Other new items of business facing the council include a letter of engagement with Burch & Associates for consultant and lobbying services for the city of Nevada at a cost not to exceed $24,000 for 2014 and 2015 and a contract with the Nevada Housing Authority for extra policing, with the cost reimbursed to the city by the housing authority. The cost for the 16-month period from Feb. 1 to June 30, 2015, is not to exceed $35,000.

The council will also be holding the first reading of an agreement for the Western Missouri 9-1-1 Dispatch Center to provide dispatch services for the city of Nevada's public safety and public works departments. The city's cost for this service is not to exceed $200,000 for 2014.

Other items include the adoption of Resolution No. 1393 approving a liquor by the drink license for Ol Subway LLC, 903 E. Subway.

There are also several items of old business on the council's agenda, including the annexation of the property at 1965 N. Osage at the request of property owners, C.E. Fancier and Norma J. Fancier; authorizing signers for the Tour of Nevada Race Purse account at US Bank; a contract with C&C Group, Springfield, for the installation of a security system at the new public safety building; the final approval of the final plat and development agreement for Curtis Business Park and the final reading of a lease/purchase agreement with Arvest Equipment for the purchase of two mowers for the parks department at a cost of $30,250.
